Yeah, I already did, it's not particularly clear... I got it tho, had to move some tags around and add one that I'd forgotten. Thanks

Hi!
I got a problem, which after spending an hour looking through the last 18 pages, appears to be unique to me.

The only command I can use is filereplace.
If I try using anything else, nothing happens.
If I copy someone else's file to itself, the mod stops working.
I've tried 3 word processor's to write scripts, same problem.
I've downloaded 2 XML writing programs, and they both say the code is illegal, even the scripts from mods I've downloaded.

So, is it my P3 Win98SE system?
Or, is there some special program I need to write scripts?
Or, Am I a hopelessly lost 52yr old?

Are you using the latest FLMM v1.21 beta?

(FLMM doesn't use an official XML format, so don't worry if some XML programs don't like a few mod scripts)

Yepper!
I got beta 9.

Considering that a mod I download will work, but if I re-save it's XML file, without modding a thing, the mod will stop working, tells me that it's got to be some tiny bit of code in the OS that's messing me up.

One wierd thing I noticed:
If I double-click on a script.xml file, it opens a web (html) page.
With some mods, I get an error message saying that the file is corrupt.

If I use Notepad, I can read, and edit, script.xml files.
If I use Wordpad, the program locks up.
If I try using Word, sometimes I get a blank screen for my script.xml files.
I've got xmlnotepad, and is says ALL of the scipt.xml files are not formatted correctly, and that they have to many errors.
If I try loading examples in manually, I get tons of errors.
The same thing goes for XML Spy.
(errors, corrupt files, illegal format, etc.)

What really bugs me is that almost everything I've downloaded works fine.
I have had a few scripted mods where parts of them wouldn't work.
I've deleted them, and I don't recall which ones they were.

Do mods you've downloaded work fine, or do they also suffer the same problems? A possible cause of your problem is a virus or trojan; do you have a virus scanner with the latest definitions?

I've had a couple of mods that I downloaded, that had the same problems.
And my computer has the latest anti-virus, as does my mail server.

I just downloaded the script tutorial/template, and while I still can't see the description in FLMM, there is a wierd little "/" inserted like "/>" at the end of lines when I view it in html.
It's not visible in wordpad, word, or notepad.
Strange.

Finally got a script that my xml editor's say is alright.
(I used JED's template)
And I had to unininstall/reinstall FLMM to get it to see the script.xml file.
But now I'm getting the same error that Glitch had on page 18:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Unable to load mod!
Parsing error on line 68: unable to find '='
Parsing mod script...
Found mod: C:\PROGRAM FILES\FREELANCER MOD MANAGER\mods\Privateer mod
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm not sure if I'll be able to fix it like Glitch did...
I'll keep you posted.

Hmmm....

Not sure how it happened, but I got it working.
So, now I have a template of my own that works.
take care!

If you're trying to use the xmldata macros then you have to read the instructions CAREFULLY! They're not particularly clear in saying that the macro data (the stuff that's being inserted) needs to go directly under the very top of your script, as in the description that appears in FLMM. You also don't need to put the tag <pre><font size=1 face=Courier><xmldata> </font></pre> at the top since it is implied in the <pre><font size=1 face=Courier><xmldata name=X> </font></pre> tag.

Well, I'll have to agree with that!

But, I've finally deciphered most of it, and have spent the day modding to my heart's content.

My next mod is gonna knock your socks off!!!

When i activate the mod Original Trent starting positions or Freelancer Massive Addon i get this error

Error: FLMM has determined that 'Original Trent starting positions' won't properly activate.
Error: Unable to find a section in 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Freelancer\data\universe\shortest_legal_path.ini'

but the ini is in the ******* map

The file must of gotten changed somehow. Try "Tools/Restore Backups", and if that doesn't work, re-install (not uninstall) Freelancer.

This is my problem. Trying to get WTS-World 1.1 to work.

I tried starting it right off the bat, and I get an error.

Error: Unable to find a dest in 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Freelancer\data\equipment\weapon_equip.ini'
Error: problem activating 'WTS-World V.1.1' on test run

So I move that file from the folder, into another folder, to see ifi t did it with any other files...

Error: Unable to find a section in 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Freelancer\data\constants.ini'
Error: problem activating 'WTS-World V.1.1' on test run

That was next...

Error: Unable to find a dest in 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Freelancer\data\ships\shiparch.ini'
Error: problem activating 'WTS-World V.1.1' on test run

Then that.... So I get kinda irritated, and remove all the ini files from the folder, to the other so I can see wtf it wants first. It tells me one file doest exist, to I return that file to the original folder. I keep doing this untill I get to one message...

Error: Unable to find a dest in 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Freelancer\data\ships\shiparch.ini'
Error: problem activating 'WTS-World V.1.1' on test run

I get this every time I try to activate WTS World. I've got the newest version of FLMM (Film, as I like to call it), and everything. Well, I'm an average use and this is really fuxx0red. Messing me my head. =x Help me, God of tech.

Oh, I returned all INI's to the orignal file.
