Thats the best support line if ever I've heard one - before you begin I promise you this I will never start throwing answers to your questions like, its probably a virus OR it's as good as it will get. Nothing is ever as good as it will get as it can only ever get better!

Hi,

I have been looking for a long while now for a server which is taking Freelancer in a new direction and I seen you news item on the front of TLR and thought this would be a good place to start.

As all of you have at least started a Freelancer server once in your lives I bet that you have heard of IFSO :P - I work for part of a small software company called Biosoft and we are currently in development of Biocross a new server operator which takes advantage of what the .NET Framework has to offer over its VB6 counterpart.

I know IFSO works and people have been using it for years - but Joe has abandoned the project and any new features people may want will never be implemented, with this I plan to rebuild and add any new features players and admins alike may want. At the moment it can do everything IFSO can but the new features in my list have not yet been added (minus 2 or 3). Here is a small feature list:



    -Decode FL Files on the fly everytime a change is made - because it can be put on a background worker it never slows down your Server as it runs on a different thread

    -Every decode saves the file as an XML document which is then used to view player information INSTEAD of decoding the file everytime to view key information

    -A whole new GUI which is less boring than the original, something fresh and somewhat easier to navigate

    -Everything has been recoded into .NET (FLCodec, FLHash etc.) except FLAdmin due to some errors I can't work around but hopefully for the future!

    -Advanced player searching with filter options and other layout devices with the ability to save a search and load it at a later date

    -Tabbed MDI child form as a player editor meaning you can have more than one players FL file and open and edit it at the same time just by clicking through tabs

    -When you hover over a players name on the player list it shows a popup telling you the players Money, Ship and faction they are most aligned with

    - Player summary option which shows everything about a player then their equipment in a tree list structure which is neatly organised into nodes again without decoding a single FL File

    -ALL GAMEDATA files are converted to XML easily using the built in converter meaning if you make a new mod with added ships it's as easy as a click of a button to generate the XML gamedata for it, also because of the nature of your mod having so many new GAMEDATA entries it has a batch convert option which converts every gamedata file to XML in a folder in seconds!

    -An all new easy way to modify your servers new character .fl file simply by clicking buttons you can have your players start char configured in seconds - click one button drag all the loadout info you want into a box then another and just type in the money amount and everything else that is editable!

    -My personal favourite is the Mass Character Editor say you've just hired a few new admins and want to mod their char with tags in their name, lights etc. It takes their existing names ("Hazard", "John" "Sushi") for example then does this (or something of your choosing placed in a template - [SP]-Hazard-[SP],[SP]-John-[SP], [SP]-Sushi-[SP]) then reads the rest of the template applying the same standard Admin equipment to them and "police" lights etc. as well as the admin ship. Could also be fun to have a template to apply to a player when kicked so he is incredibly disadvantaged for 48 hours then re-apply after his sentence :P

    -Performance Monitoring works out an average of your CPU Usage and lag generated if that average works out higher than a safe point you are warned and options are provided to you such as Restarting the FLServer or doing the same with Biocross as sometimes the 'garbage collector' of .NET programs can get a little full

    -Admin notes is a new idea of mine where you can give your admins upload rights to a certain folder on a server, and they can upload tasks, thoughts and ideas using the Admin Notes client then you as the server admin can download them from within Biocross (which houses the Admin notes Server) view them add to them and re-upload them, it will have urgency, a subject list (which you can define) for example say if your only allowing three types of notes, notes of banned players, notes of maintenance or server trouble and forum problems then the client will download the subject list and your other admins using the client can only choose from those subjects.

    -Banning station is a slightly more advanced and easy to use version of the IFSO banning section, everything is easier to follow and to read as well as some new little touches which make it all a little easier.

    -Most of all I hope to share all source code but only after I have finished and feel I can no longer add to the program, I don't want to give it away yet but I will when my time is up I dont want to leave you in the position you are in now, a server operator which you can't add to!

Welcome to the Galactica 2.0 mod. This is a TC (Total Conversion mod) featuring the Battlestar Galactica universe and the search for Earth. Primarily based on the re-imagined series, you will see all the ships from the tv show as you attempt to find Earth just after the Cylons invade the Colonial systems.

Once you discover Earth the mod doesn't end there, you'll find all new systems to explore with their own unique peoples, alliegences and ships. This part of the mod is still in development and will be released at a later date

As a lowly commercial pilot whose just recieved his licence, you start out on Caprica, the home to Colonial civilization. Do you decide to trade, hoping to make your fortune while fighting off the Cylons at every turn, or do you join the fight with the Colonial Fleet against its most deadly of enemies and go in search of the missing 13th tribe from a planet known only in the sacred scrolls of Pythea as Earth?

Many years have passed since the death of Emperor Palpatine at Endor. His death was a catalyst for the plucky Rebellion to become a legitimate government. However, the Galactic Civil War rages on. Despite the loss of their Emperor, the Imperials continue to fight in an effort to reclaim worlds now lost to them.

As the two galactic superpowers vie for supremacy, Organized Crime runs riot. Smugglers sneak in and out of territories, bringing illegal goods to those willing to pay top credit. The outer rim worlds are a haven for those looking to disappear.

In a time of war, mercenaries are high in demand. Immoral souls, sold to the highest bidder to do the wet work of others. Pirates raid the space lanes, preying on unsuspecting traders for credits and their booty. Alliances are forged and broken as factions attempt to gain a foothold in the galaxy.

Freeworlds is a Total Conversion Mod. What does that mean? Gone are all the original Freelancer stuff. Every ship, every base, every system is completely customized.

Join pilots from around the world! Whether you are from the USA, Europe or Down Under, Freeworlds has an international cast of characters for you to meet.

X-Wings, TIE fighters, YT-1300 freighters, Star Destroyers! All these ships and more. Take your pick from the ships made famous in the Star Wars saga to fly!

Have your choice of careers within a faction. Be a power trader that adds extra zero’s to your factions bank balance. Prefer to fight? Work your way up through the fighter ranks to place in a decorated squadron. Starfighters not big enough? Then try your hand at flying a capital ship bristling with turbolasers and reign down terror on your enemies.

Whether you want to be a good guy, bad guy or just a shady guy, we have a faction to suit your tastes. Currently Freeworlds supports the following factions: New Republic; Galactic Empire; Organized Crime; Corellia; Mandalorians; Pirates; Vader’s Fist Strike Force; Jedi; Sith; Krath.

Factions have the opportunity to take bases from hostile forces in weekly Territorial Engagements. Be a part of a massive battle for supremacy over who gets to lay claim to a base.

A maintenance system for factions ensures that trading never becomes redundant. Keep your faction afloat and ensure your side can afford the gruelling financial cost of war.

Multiple starter options for new players! Don’t fancy joining a faction until you are more acquainted with the server? Want to earn your ship the hard way and don’t want a handout? Well you have the choice of running cargo or heading to mineral fields to try your luck at mining.

As it stands, we are a semi-RP server. While RP is optional, it is always welcome here. The server has regular Plot Events designed to bring factions together to RP out a scenario on the server.

The Freeworlds Universe is always looking to better itself. We are never content to sit and let the galaxy pass us by. Our motivated and experienced development team is always looking for ways to improve the mod and improve the overall experience of our players!
