Crysis

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Crysis

Full game out either today (Nov. 14) or Firday (Nov. 16).
i participated in the Beta of the game, and i'm proud to say that at least one Bug was fixed due to my participation.

i got my full copy yesterday from my friendly local PC-game-shoppe and have been playing it since.

allow me to say right now, unless you have a GeForce 8800 or an AMD HD2900, you will not be able to play this game on high settings.
additionally, "Very-high" settings are only available in Vista.

in my experimentation and research, i have not found there to be any grapical advantage between High and Very-High.

with that over with, lest get onto the meaty bits. on Delta (hardest) the game is devilishly hard. ememies have very good Aim, speak Korean and will investigate noises, fire at suspected locations and spot you if your not in cover, so, the AI is very good. It is also inportant to mention that usefull things that make the game very easy, such as enemy highlighting and grenade warnings are not visible in Delta, and there is no crosshair (a LAPP is available later in the game)

in the easier difficulty modes, the AI gets reduced very quickly (basically the AI is pants on everything but Delta) and the usefull HUD elements return.

i am finding the game much more rewarding and entertaining on the Delta, and too easy on the lower modes. when i get frustrated about a particularly difficult part, i am forced to think up a solution.

those of you who played FarCry, and found the chekpoint-only-saving system excruciating will be thankfull that, while checkpoints are still present, you can quicksave and load, aswell as save normally and load.

Graphically, as you might have guessed, the game is outstanding. in many parts of the game you could swear it was photo-realistic. the textures are fantastic, and all of the models have a collossal Poly-count.
Water in this game is dynamically computed and rendered. if you jump into the water, the waves created with interfere contructuvely and destructively as they would in real life.
bushes are also pushed aside as you walk through them, and trees can be cut down/severed. foliage will be pushed aside when shot through.

gameplay wise, the Game is excellent. with the variety of weapons available (Dual pistols, Assult Rifles, Sniper Rifles, Shotguns, Submachine guns) all of which are well balanced, you can play in the style you want to. you can do a "Rambo" on maximum Armour, or snipe your foes from 200m away.
you could feasibly go through the whole game without having to kill more than a handfull of enemies, because of the Cloak mode.

All in All, Download the Demo, play the demo. then buy the awesome game.

(LAPP = Laser. Aiming. Point. Projector.)

I hadn't followed Crysis that closely (following Far Cry 2 like a bloodhound though.) Crysis scored much higher than I'd expected (9.5 on Gamespot, 9.4 on IGN), but I just don't think it would hold my interest very long. I'm into more militaristic games (or slightly more realistic, the whole super-soldier thing just doesn't do it for me.) Call of Duty 4 is more my cup of tea. Besides, my comp is getting pretty outdated again, so there's no way in hell I'd be able to enjoy this game with all the bells and whistles (hoping for a new GFX card for Christmas, and if I get that then I should be fine), but right now I'm sticking with things I can run. Surprisingly, I can run CoD4 on high (the demo at least, gotta wait until Thursday to get the game.) I can also run Oblivion pretty well too (on a scale of 1 to 10 I probably have my settings turned up to about a 7 or 8.) I DLed the demo of Crysis and it wouldn't even run (some random error message at install, and about the third time (and second download) I just said forget it and deleted it.

I might eventually get Crysis, but only after the price has come down. From what I've seen Far Cry 2 looks like it's going to be one hell of a game (that is if all the features work like they're promising.)

I don't doubt for a second that it's a solid and enjoyable game, I just don't know if it's to my particular liking.

The eye candy in Crysis does look absolutely spectacular but I honestly don't think I would enjoy the gameplay enough to warrant upgrading my dated hardware. I'm honestly bored brainless by shooters at the moment and just couldn't be bothered with them, even the good ones.

the very high settings is when you get vista so it makes use of the direct 10, my i say this has already been hacked so its unlocked and runs on directX 9c drivers

Yeah shooters are pretty much the same, the Battlefield games have made them more interesting but overall the genre is still pretty stagnant i think. I'm looking forward to Mass Effect & Spore.

I'll pass on your comments about the difficulty level making a world of difference, because this is what a friend has said

Graphics - Tops, but not the most interesting.

Gameplay - same old - reach the barricade - kill 5, 6 enemies - go to next barricade - kill 5, 6 enemies - reach your goal - find nothing at your goal - go to next barricade... etc.

AI - still love the "nothing there..." comments and the short-term memory loss of the AI...

Story - doesn't come close to Bioshock or Half-Life series

Multiplayer - very uninspiring.

And then you come across sites like gamespot and ign and others that praise this game like its the daddy of them all... I just wonder what these peeps look for in their games... Best FPS ever??? Far from it...

He's not impressed

the story isn't spectacular, (its made by Crytek, who are German... ) but is faaaar better than Bioshock, which had me reaching for the pillows.

i don't know what multiplayer your friend was playing, but the MP beta3 was awesome. i can only assume that the full-game MP will be better when the official UK servers go up.

one thing i might add, alot of people think the game looks washed out. the fix for this is very simple: brightness down by 1/4 and contrast up by 1/3

enjoy better (and much more realistic) graphics.

Another is talking about it's zero G level being awesome, but I get the feeling he hasn't played it yet

General consensus so far seems to be overhyped... but like I say, I don't know how many have played it. Problem is that many have just got COD4 as well, probably comparing their enjoyment of that with this - none say it's the demo, but i am assuming that's what they're trying?
What comparisions it makes I don't know, I don't buy new games anymore as they've all been vastly disappointing (they get very dull very quick for me).

Online gameplay is the only reason for games at the mo

I Played the demo, and the demo didn't hold my interest enough to even think about buying the game.

Chips is right, same old, same old.

I'll wait until I have a new PC before trying it. As for the whole "Very High" issue, there are INI modifications that can be made that allegedly bring the same level of graphical quality over to XP. If I recall correctly, an article was posted at "Extreme Tech", while the actual post was over at www.incrysis.com.

I can't believe that Taw allowed that one to go.

Swiss - I have to give him a free one occasionally because, if I don't, he pouts.

AoD - What's the matter, boy? Too lazy to use "quote" tags? Anyway, I said "allegedly" because I have no first-hand knowledge of how effective the modifications are. In any case, perhaps you don't know whotcha lookin' fer .
