Delete and reinstall IE?

I need some help here. As we all know, MSN is tied to Internet Explorer. I use Mozilla (be cursed, IE ) but I need to delete and reinstall IE... Only... I don't have a ****ing clue on how to do it right... Can someone help me with this? I'm running XP, by the way.

Start, control panel, add/remove programs - then click the side tab saying "add/remove window components"

Select IE (or deselect), and okays.

Must admit, never tried it - so there may be steps afterwards.

moved it to the right forum

well now, getting rid of IE is one of the hardest things you'll ever attempt, and personally I wouldn't even consider it, the browser is so tied in with the o/s and the .Net framework.

can you be more specific about what it's telling you to do? are you getting any error messages? and if you're using Firefox, why is IE even an issue? why do you *need* to delete and reinstall IE?

tbh you might as well just reinstall Windows itself, getting rid of IE on it's own is, for most people, almost impossible. I'm not saying it can't be done, but unless there's a really good reason, and no alternative, it's best not to even try, or you'll prob completely trash Windows and end up having to reinstall the whole lot anyway having done more damage than if you'd just done a repair install in the first place.

Indeed. IE is a blood-sucking parasite that can never be fully removed from Windows (in my experience at least). The only way to really "reinstall" IE, apart from Chips' suggestion, would be to apply all IE updates from MS. That should replace the core files especially if you are upgrading from 5.0 to 6.0 or from 6.0 to 6.1.

if he's using XP then the default install should be IE6, should it not? I don think you can go back to 5 or 5.5 if 6 is your original install.
