After I finished modeling a ship

I was modeling a ship in MS3D and now that im done i want to bring it into Freelancer. But i have some problems i need help with.

1. i dont understand what im supposed to do in the utf editor... do i name the textures after the PICS i used for the textures or after the MATERIALS that i textured? in other words i used a pic called "texture1.jpg" and textured a group called box and renamed the default material "box texture"
what am i supposed to do exactly and if i have multiple pics used for textures like pic1 and pic2 and pic3?

2. i keep hearing that texture files have to be TGA files... how the heck do you make a TGA file? ive worked with graphics alot but ive never seen something that could make a TGA file...

3. and once i get those 2 problems solved... how do i set the ship stats... like its cargo hold, weapon class, turn inertia, blah blah blah...

never done this before but want to learn, i need to know everyting i gotta do after the finished model to place my ship in freelancer and fly it.

Amazing! Don't like the window texture though.

Canopy Window 101

in ms3d
select the canopy window and regroup it, rename it somewhat like this CanopyWindow.

Now create a Glass material without a texture.

Don't argue this is in preparation for your mat file

Now create a mat file with all your materials and textures using your utf edit of course.
at your material library node
under material library create a node named Glass
under Glass create three nodes named DC, Oc, and Type
Edit Dc in float array mode
input this
0.9 <---- Red color controller
0.9 <---- Blue color controller
0.9 <---- Green color controller
make sure that all entries are less than 1, experiment on the numbers until you get that appropriate color.

Edit Oc in float array
input this
0.8 <---- opacity controller the more it gets closer to 1 the opaque it is.

last
edit Type in string
input this
DcDtOcOt

Now you will have that glass effect in your canopy window.
