Good news is - I got it to work, bad news is - there were some mistakes in the original code.
the right square bracket wasn't included 'cause ya can't get it in a post, miss-spellings, and other minor stuff...
Also, I've noticed that no matter what you do in shiparch.ini, there are no shields... wondering why, I went and looked at the CMP file - Ah ha! No shields defined.. wonder if that could have something to do with it?? <G>

Anyway, got the ship outta dry dock and into space. Set cargo size to 10000 for starters, set battery limit to 0, (no shields, why carry them!) and nanobots to 200. Made almost a 1M$ in 6 runs.. <G> had 8 corsairs pounding on me at one time and had to hit the nanobots only once... guess it IS hard to stop a train! <G>
Handling as I expected - like a freight train! Gun/Turrets are pretty much useless - better to just keep on truckin than try to get a shot or two off...

So why did I post? Anyone got any improvment ideas ??

Off to try and get some other ships in .. Heavy Lifters, Transports, (gonna have to see about adding people as a commodity??), miners, etc...

Hey i just been following up some history and found this ... is the FLMM MOD still accesible somewhere ??? cuss i been to the 2 links that was given n cant download from either of them .... so does anyone have the FLMM mod for the train ??

No - not that i know of, but i made an updated one which is called Fly all ships....where you get to fly all the ships in FL. See Pathfinderstudios Forum for a thread about Pathfinderstudios mods - where you can then download them

I'm using the Train mod (tweaked by Chips) and since both SF and Chips posted here, I figured I'd ask my question here: whyfor you can't dock on non-planets? =P

I see other large ships mooring at shipyards, battleships... I saw another Train moor at Pueblo Station, f'r cryin' out loud!

So.. if they can do, whyfor we can't?

Please pardon the necroposting...

CW requested how to add the cargopods...Here is what I have discovered.

In the Ships/loadouts_utility.ini file, it has the loadouts to the transport ships(trains).
here is your code:
In your ship's package in the goods.ini, Copy/paste this code.
equip = cargopod_red, hpcargo01
Delete the equip text and replace w/addon. it should now read
addon = cargopod_red, hpcargo01

This will make it show up in space, but because it isn't part of the ship cmp, those cargo pods disapear in the planet landing cinematics.

now in your ship arch.ini, make sure that this is added: (add or delete as ness.)
hp_type = hp_cargo_pod, HpCargo01, HpCargo02, HpCargo03, HpCargo04, HpCargo05, HpCargo06
