Missions not available error

Hello everyone,

First let me say this is a great site and contains a wealth of invaluable information, so thanks to everyone who has contributed.

I am working on a mod, (aren't we all), and have run across a problem I can't seem to fix. I've read and re-read all the tut's referencing this problem but to no avail.

I created a new system and everything works fine except mission availability on the base. Each time I hit the job board it says there are too many players accessing the job board, i.e. no missions. I am running it on a lan and there are no other players.

I've tried everything I can think of to get it too work, even going back and rebuilding the system from scratch, using known good mbase files, systems files etc. I have used existing and new ids names for all npc's, objects etc and to make a long story short, read and re-read the code at lest a 1000 times!

Anyone have an suggestions as to what may be causing this problem? If necessary I will post any code anyone would like to examine in order to help.

Thanks in advance!

Simple fix my friend, i used to have this same issue when i first started...

you need mission vignette zones(if you are using FLE click on the "Mission targets box thinggy) add a BUNCH around the bases and throughout the system....

BIG NOTE!!! make sure for OPEN space make sure you make the target zone type "open"

Next important thing....the type of mission...

For Lawful => Unlawful,Lawful (makes ya kill pirates for the good guys)

For Unlawful=>Lawful, Unlawful (makes ya kill good guys for pirate groups)

the final note...if you go into the mbases.ini you'll see an entry like this..

[MBase
nickname = LI06_06_Base
local_faction = fc_ou_grp
diff = 10
msg_id_prefix = gcs_refer_base_LI06_06_Base

[MVendor
num_offers = 6, 8 <----- this is the AMOUNT of zones this base uses for missions

in that example it will use 6 out or 8 mission zones....if you are adding NPC's you will have to add MORE zones so that the NPC can give you a mission in one of the random mission areas...

Thanks Dark! I completely overlooked zones! Must be time to take a break from this thing for a day or two.

I appreciate the quick response and thanks again.

Sorry to Franken post this, but could this be why I cannot get additional npcs to show up aside from the fixed ones? I do not have mission zones yet in my system. I really was not ready to add missions. I just wanted to see that the extra npcs were showing up in the bar.

Post Mon Jul 02, 2007 5:55 pm

Did you add these entrys to mbases.ini?

[BaseFaction
faction = fc_c_grp
weight = 100
offers_missions = true
mission_type = DestroyMission, 28.478237, 53.365005, 100
npc = HI0301_corsairs_001_m
[GF_NPC
nickname = HI0301_corsairs_001_m
body = pl_male1_journeyman_body
head = pi_pirate1_head
lefthand = benchmark_male_hand_left
righthand = benchmark_male_hand_right
individual_name = 221005
affiliation = fc_c_grp
voice = rvp140
misn = DestroyMission, 28.478237, 53.365005
room = bar
rumor = base_0_rank, mission_end, 2, 133240
rumor = base_0_rank, mission_end, 2, 133241
rumor = base_0_rank, mission_end, 2, 133242
rumor = base_0_rank, mission_end, 2, 133243
rumor = base_0_rank, mission_end, 2, 133245
rumor = base_0_rank, mission_end, 2, 133246
rumor = base_0_rank, mission_end, 2, 133247
rumor = base_0_rank, mission_end, 2, 133248
rumor = base_0_rank, mission_end, 3, 134316

because without them you will not get anyone in bars. Also if there is an error anywhere above your base, NOTHING will show up below it until you fix that error.

And you should have started an new thread.

You guys forgot one thing. This applies to new factions. They must be listed in the Mission types in the VignetteParams.ini or it will not matter how many zones you set up.

Example:

[DataNode
node_id = 41
Offer_group = gd_bh_grp, gd_gm_grp, gd_im_grp, gd_z_grp, co_alg_grp, co_be_grp, co_hsp_grp, co_ic_grp, co_khc_grp, co_kt_grp, co_me_grp, co_ni_grp, co_nws_grp, co_os_grp, co_rs_grp, co_shi_grp, co_ss_grp, co_ti_grp, co_vr_grp
offer_text = append, singular, 327840, Hostile_group, plural, 327841, Hostile_group, 327842, TARGET_ZONE, 327843, Big_solar, OTHER_SOLAR
offer_text = append, singular, 327993, Hostile_group, plural, 327994, Hostile_group, 327995, TARGET_ZONE, 327996, Big_solar, OTHER_SOLAR
offer_text = append, singular, 328146, Hostile_group, plural, 328147, Hostile_group, 328148, TARGET_ZONE, 328149, Big_solar, OTHER_SOLAR
child_node = 144

This defines what type of mission is available for that faction. This would be a base or weapon platform mission.

This is quite a usual omission when adding new factions.

In Nightstalker's example (Node 41) is for one type of mission only, available to guilds and companies.

You need to add your faction to all mission nodes that similarly-aligned factions will offer. So if your faction is a company look for co_xxx_grp and add yours there, if it is an illegal faction look for fc_xxx_grp and add yours there, if its a police/legal faction look for xx_p_grp or xx_m_grp or xx_n_grp and add yours there.

If you add your faction to all nodes then you might have some interesting missions - but in fact I think FL will just work things out for you by itself.

mine still doesnt work. ive added my faction to all vignetteparams.ini nodes that had li_n_grp in them, which is most similar to my faction for a startrek cross over mod i'm working on. The faction is the federation (a legal faction) and the unlawful faction The Borg . my encounters work. so do the custom sounds for the borg. but no missions available on the federation base next to the vignette zones and the encounter zone. i'm stumped. Anyone got any ideas.

[Zone
nickname = Zone_Earth_destroy_vignette_03
shape = SPHERE
pos = 221000, 0, -272000
size = 10000
sort = 99.500000
mission_type = lawful, unlawful
vignette_type = open

I'm not 100% sure but I think mission_type may be your problem:- I think it specifies missions against lawfuls, for unlawfuls? And your Federation is a legal faction?

Change it to "mission_type = unlawful, lawful" or delete that line altogether.

Also if the zone is in open space then your vignette_type is OK, but if it's in asteroids or debris then it should be "field"?

Let us know the final fix.

ive tried that too, among many things since the previous posts
the job board now reads "No missions available come back later"
I now have ten vignettes all using "unlawful, lawful" format. i've searched the tutorials and found few on this subject two of which was most helpful and well written but after following the tuts to the letter it seems there may be somthing to do with my custom system or factions or somthing of that nature i even tried being allied to the federation and my npc's nor the job board will respond.

I will strive to get this resolved so i can share my findings, but it seems unclear if i can get it resolved on my own

I seem to remember that for random missions to work, the offering faction and at least one of their enemies must be operating in the area...

You may need to set up a large ambient_pop zone to cover much of the system, and overlap your destroy_vignette zones, and place both factions of your choice in it.

Worth a try anyway, only takes 5-6 minutes to do (famous last words!)

does it have to be tittled "ambient_pop_zone"?

nope, no change. not sure why. Do you know any body who has done this who may have run in to this problem?

Edit -aching head , uncheck the add sig button after first postin a thread please.
